Fulfillment of a Dream

Dream - 2019

Each fall, I select one word as a theme for the upcoming year. For 2019, my theme is “Dream”. Dreams can be dangerous because to see them achieved, you must have faith — no matter how long they appear to be taking.

One example is a dream that I had nearly 25 years ago which involved traveling to the Greek Islands. I was so infatuated with this country that I even thought of moving there to the chagrin of my then friend, soon to be boyfriend, and now husband.

Greece then became interwoven into our relationship. We were so serious about it that we planned our wedding for Santorini. (That beautiful, picturesque island which sits in the southern Aegean Sea, about 120 miles southeast of Greece‘s mainland; and was the site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history, about 3,600 years ago.)

Unfortunately, circumstances changed and our big, fat, Greek wedding became our big, fat Cajun one. Our wedding day was lovely and I cherish that memory, but Greece was still embedded deeply.

Fast forward 15 years and Greece was still at the top of our travel bucket list. We even planned two other trips there but still hadn’t made it until May 2019, when we took a cruise which sailed from Rome to Athens, Crete, Rhodes, Mykonos AND Santorini. To say that expectations were high is an understatement. However, this was Greece, and oh boy, it didn’t disappoint!

We had an amazing experience from start to finish, surpassing our hopes. Each day, it was as if we were sailing into a postcard that overwhelmed our senses. The people were lovely; the food phenomenal; the history fascinating; and on and on and on…

The Punchline

Don’t give up on whatever is in your heart; it’s there for a reason. No matter the amount of time that it is taking, when it happens (and it will,) it will be even sweeter and more precious to you than you could’ve imagined.

I know that we made it to Greece at the exact time that we were meant to travel there. However now that we’ve been and had such a wonderful experience, what are we to do? It’s now time to DREAM another, and even larger DREAM!

25 Years embedded dream of Greece.

15 Years married, but wedding didn't take place in Greece.

4 Total times planning trip to Greece.

FINALLY! 2019 A Dream Fulfilled!
