Prevailing Against All Odds To Dream
I know what it takes for Robert Herjavec to so vulnerably share this post as I also have a father who regularly spends time in jail due to his mental instability. (The system is clearly broken; he should be in a psychological health facility but is so intelligent that he outsmarts and outmaneuvers them.) I now pray for my father as I forgave him 20+ years ago for all of the hurts that he caused my family. When I did so, I became free.
Rather than live in the past as a victim, I chose, a long time ago, to be accountable for my own happiness and future.
The reason that I choose to be vulnerable and share this today is that I know by outward appearances I seem to have it all — a loving husband, wonderful career; in general, a fantastic life. However, there was a time in my 20’s when I didn’t have two nickels to rub together and survived on boiled potatoes and carrots.
I, like Robert, am a testimony that hard work, tenacity and a servant leader mindset prevail. God has blessed me beyond any expectations that I had for my future. We are not solely the products of our genetics but can become anything we are determined to be IF we put our minds to it.
